Mid-Autumn in KL: Where the Lanterns Actually Are

Mid-Autumn 2026 falls on 29 September. KL malls will hang lanterns; the public street night we sourced is Penang’s Clan Jetties. Do not mix the two.
The 15th night of the 8th lunar month in 2026 is 29 September. That is the public Mid-Autumn date. Kuala Lumpur malls will put up lanterns for weeks around it. A street festival with jetties and residents is a different thing — we sourced that in Penang, not Brickfields.

The date that matters
Mid-Autumn Festival — Penang: Clan Jetties and George Town heritage streets, listed as free to view. Crowded after dark. Wear walking shoes. Leave space for people who live on the jetties.
KL does not have an equivalent sourced street listing on our pass yet. When Pavilion, Pavilion DH, or a council page publishes a lantern trail with hours, it will go on festivals in Kuala Lumpur.
What KL actually offers
Until a mall names a trail:
- Pavilion Damansara Heights still has Harry Potter until 20 Sep — a different festival, useful if you are already in Damansara
- Mooncake is retail. A box is not an event
- Petaling Street will be busy; that is not the same as a programmed lantern walk
Do not fly to KL for Mid-Autumn expecting Penang’s jetties. What’s on in Penang this month if you can move.
Family / rain
Lantern streets are outdoor. Rain plan: mall concourse, then try again. Family things to do.
Common questions
Is Mid-Autumn a public holiday? No. Plan a weeknight or the nearest weekend.
Hungry Ghost vs Mid-Autumn? Different lunar months. Do not mix the two on one outing.
